Dear Year 11 Parent/Carer,
As you will be aware, our Year 11 students will be sitting PPE (mock examinations) when we return to school after half term. These are very important examinations. Not only are they a great practice for GCSEs (which will be upon us within six months) but they will also help teachers to prepare and deliver the right material over the coming months.
The examination period runs from Monday 5 November until Friday 16 November. The PPEs will be as close to the actual GCSEs as possible, which will prepare students for the experience of sitting in the auditorium in exam conditions. We do insist that students take the experience seriously. Last year’s GCSE results show that good preparation over the next six months will pay real dividends come August 22 next year (GCSE results day).
The two week break should be used to full advantage to go over classwork. Knowledge is key to getting a minimum grade 4. So, going over key ideas, making revision cards, sticking up key information around the house will all be useful. There are a number of websites – Hegarty Maths, Doddle, BBC Bitesize, PiXL apps, Seneca learning, which will all help with revision. Making a revision timetable is important so that time can be spent each day revising.
Once students have sat PPEs, we will be checking that all questions have been answered. We know that when students do not reach a grade 4, it is usually because chunks of the paper have been missed out. So, we will be asking students to re-sit papers which are left blank. Equally, we need all students to sit all PPEs, so attendance is critical and we will telephone students who do not arrive on the day. They will also have to catch up and re-sit the papers when they are back in school.
Finally, we wish all students the best of luck. We are committed in preparing our students in the best possible way in terms of their GCSE and exam experience. Please encourage your son/daughter in their preparation for their PPEs. It is a great opportunity for them to set the foundation for a very successful and productive summer.
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need any further clarification.
Yours sincerely
Mr Markoutsas
Acting Principal
