We believe effective communication between home and school is key. We understand that it can often be difficult communicating with staff because they have a very full timetable, are running P6 / Prep for Success or are on duty during break and lunchtimes; and we recognise that parents and carers have very busy lives.

Priory Community School Car Park

Information for parents/carers at pick up/drop off times

In the last 5 years, we have increased the capacity of the school by 250 students and 80 staff. You can appreciate that such an increase has put immense pressure on the infrastructure of the school with the car park being one of them.

On a daily basis, traffic in the school car park poses significant dangers for parents, students, and staff alike. The combination of limited space, high volumes of vehicles, and the presence of students creates a potentially hazardous environment. One major issue is the unpredictability of children, who may run into the path of moving cars without warning. Parents, often rushing to drop off or pick up their children, might become distracted, increasing the risk of accidents.

Another danger comes from parents parking in unauthorised areas, such as crossings or near entrances, which can obstruct traffic flow and limit safe walking paths for students. These unsafe practices increase the chances of serious accidents.

Equally important, and during busy times, some parents park in the disabled spaces (who don’t have a blue badge displayed), creating immense problems during drop offs and pickups for those who need access to these spaces.

The only solution to reduce all of the above hazards is to reduce the amount of traffic coming into the school. We now operate with a car park permit system. Only parents/carers with a car park permit are able to enter the school car park during drop off and pick up times.

If you drive your child to school and are not eligible for a car park permit, please arrange an alternative safe space. For example, Sainsbury’s car park, as you child is then able to safely walk to the school gates using the pedestrian crossing or underpasses.

We appreciate your support with this matter.
