Free School Meals

Below is the copy of the email recently sent to all parents/carers in regards to Free School Meals.

Dear Parent/Carer

You are receiving this email because we do not currently show your child as being entitled to Free School Meals. However, if you are eligible, not only would your child receive a free meal each day, but this entitlement will generate additional funds for the school to help support their education.

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

If your child is eligible for free school meals, their entitlement will begin on the day you apply, and will last until the end of the school phase your child is in as at 31 March 2022. You will not have to reapply during this time although you will need to notify the local authority if your child changes school.

It is easy to apply through clicking on the following link

https://nsod.n-somerset.gov.uk/kb5/northsomerset/directory/fsm_app_landing.page

You will need to provide your legal surname, National Insurance Number and your date of birth.

If you are unsure what to do, or have any questions about the process, please reply to this email and we will contact you.

If you believe that your child is already receiving free school meals, please do not reapply as any new application may be unsuccessful and you would lose your existing eligibility. Instead, please contact us to make sure that our records are accurate.

Kind regards

Stephanie Munro
