JDNC: World’s first ‘SEE MONSTER’ heading to Banksy’s Dismaland spot in Jill Dando News town
By Jill Dando News
Students from Jill Dando News were inspired with the good news that the world’s first ever ‘SEE MONSTER’ is heading to their town.
Yet this is no ordinary Hollywood-style ’monster’. It is unique monster size oil rig to put Weston-super-Mare on the world map. And it’s the latest innovation at the grounds of Banksy’s global hit ’Dismaland’.
The 350-tonnes, 35 metre-high SEE MONSTER is a retired rig from the North Sea, aiming to put the town on the world map.
It will be filled with hundreds of different styles of plants, trees and other natural resources.
Jill Dando News was also formed out of Weston-super-Mare, the childhood home of Britain’s best TV journalist Jill Dando. There are now over 100 Jill Dando News reporters from across Somerset, finding and publicising positive news across the world.

The latest massive innovation at the seaside spot was Banksy’s Dismaland which saw a flurry of world stars head to the town in 2015. The pop-up “bemusement park” was a sinister twist on Disneyland, featuring bad news galore as exhibits, but brought £20 million to the town.
A short time later in 2017, children founded Jill Dando News which was all about good news.
Now SEE MONSTER is set to steal the show.
Jill Dando News reporters interviewed Becky Walsh, West-Super-Mare Town Council and Community Manager for SEE MONSTER and Dose of Society founders, Nii Lartey and Ahmed Faid.
They were joined by Filmmaker Farhath Siddiqui who has been documenting the whole project, capturing its essence and engagement.
Faid said that what connected SEE MONSTER and Dose of Society were ‘big dreams’, explaining that “sometimes you have to do things you fear but on the other side of that is opportunity”.
Dose of Society is a socially powered media company for fresh, unheard voices with a mission to show case ‘real people with real stories’.
Walsh explained that ‘the psychology behind it is the most important thing in order to make sure it has impact and full engagement’.
The team showed how Weston-Super-Mare was chosen for a reason because they wanted to attract more tourists and raise the profile of the town.
Faid encouraged them to ‘try new things’ to ‘find your happy place’. Love for his job came from knowing that ‘simple connection on the street can help thousands of people’.
Lartey implored them to remember ‘purpose over profit’ and continue telling people’s stories.
The inspiring aspirational Jill Dando News journalists were from Castle Batch Primary School, St Anne’s Primary School, The King Alfred School Academy, Worle Community School Academy and Priory Community School Academy.
Jill Dando News has interviewed the Prime Minister in Downing Street, a NASA astranaut, Fiona Bruce and many more since it was started five years ago. It has also trained up hundreds of positive young journalists.
