Priory Community School Academy in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, has been awarded the Foundation level of the British Council’s International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.
The award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education.
As an example of the amazing work, in 2019 PCSA took students on an inspirational trip to Baza in Granada to boost their learning in Spanish. They stayed with local families and learned about their culture, enabling them to build relationships and speak Spanish throughout the trip.
Students at the time told Jill Dando News about their excitement about the experience. PCSA students are pictured (below) in Baza, Granada on one of PCSA’s international learning trips.
Principal Angelos Markoutsas said: “We are thrilled to receive this award. Well done to our students and staff who have made it happen.
“In all of our subjects, we strive to bring learning alive and to make it relevant to the world we are living in.”
John Rolfe MBE, Schools Outreach Manager at the British Council, said: “Priory Community School Academy’s international work has earned the school well-deserved recognition in the form of the British Council International School Award – Foundation Certificate.
“We are delighted and proud that PCSA is committed to developing a whole school approach to embedding and celebrating international work. The school staff dedication is enriching education and supporting globally aware young people and key skills development.”
The British Council International School Award started in 1999 to recognise the schools leading the way in instilling and developing a global dimension into the learning experience of all children and young people. It is managed by the British Council.
The British Council is a charity and the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.
The award is now available worldwide in countries such as India, Greece, Egypt, Lebanon, Nigeria, and Pakistan.
