By Jill Dando News
A school passionate about the community and environment is partnering in an incredible post-Covid19 lockdown underpass nature transformation.
Priory Community School Academy (PCSA), in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, part of The Priory Learning Trust (TPLT), is partnering in a sensational art transformation of two underpasses near the popular school.
Fox, hare, squirrel and trees
Inspirational artist Martin Darcy and his talented team of volunteers are halfway through painting the two underpasses with an array of environmental nature images including a fox, hare, squirrel and trees.
There is much more to come on the project which is expected to be completed within two weeks.
The academy and TPLT is passionate about the environment, and wanted to bring together a project to look to the future post COVID-19 lockdown.
Passionate about the community
Their students and staff have helped the community in huge ways since the start of lockdown 18 months ago.
In the summer, a DT teacher at the school won a prestigious UK award after helping to make nearly 5000 NHS face masks during Covid19.
Principal Angelos Markoutsas said: “This is going to be a brilliant community project used and seen by thousands of people throughout the years to come.
“We wanted our students and entire community to be able to enjoy visually outstanding underpasses.”
Martin, whose two children went to Priory, has done dozens of incredible artwork across Britain for many years.
He said: “It was an absolute honour and a privilege to create some post Covid lockdown artwork on these underpasses.
“We wanted to celebrate nature, the environment and all that is good.”
Charities, community and civic duty
TPLT also raises tens of thousands of pounds each year to help charities as part of its community and civic duty.
Neville Coles, CEO OF TPLT, said: “We are so excited to see these finished underpasses that will brighten up the community for so many people.
“Community and civic work is at the very heart of all we do at TPLT.”
